Klamath Basin Lakes
he Upper Klamath Lake is located east of the Cascade Range in south central Oregon and is the largest freshwater body in the state. It is approximately 20 miles long and 8 miles wide, extending northwest from the city of Klamath Falls, sitting at an elevation of 4140 ft.
The lake is fed by several rivers, including the Williamson and is connected by a short channel to the smaller Agency Lake to the north.
This awesome body of water allows us to hunt the Klamath Basin Redband Trout where they live. We�ll share our favorite spots with you that have traditionally produced some hefty rewards!!
hile on the lake, we�ll come into contact with the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge which sits along the northern edge of the lake. Established in 1928, the Refuge is comprised of 15,000 acres of mostly freshwater marsh and open water. These habitats support excellent breeding areas for waterfowl and colonial nesting birds including American white pelican and several heron species. Bald eagle and osprey nest nearby and can sometimes be seen fishing in Refuge waters. A boat is a must for those who wish to explore this unique area.
